Calling Croydon Car Drivers - you're being ripped off!

Eyebrows have been raised in the south London borough of Croydon, where it has been revealed that residents have stumped up a cool £500,000  paying for the right to PARK OUTSIDE THEIR OWN HOMES.
On-street residential parking is often seen by Londoners as 'the norm', yet parking is free in upmarket areas such as Hampstead and Brent Cross.  Actually, paying to park in places like Newham (Britain's poorest borough) and Croydon (second worst council tax collectors in England (link) is viewed by those north of Watford as pretty outrageous... especially when you consider where that cash is going.
Newham residents will be pleased to note that (if the cash stripped from their household budget is anything like Croydon's half million) it goes to pay for people like Britain's most well-paid council boss, champagne-socialist trade union chief cum smug council grasper Joe Duckworth who's obscene take-home pay and perks raised feathers earlier this year in the Daily Mail (link) and other media - nearly £300,000 a year.
Useless Croydon council seem to have gone for the far more visible target of car drivers.
The overpaid graspers in the town hall have produced a helpful online guide, which reveals that charges are: £70 a year for the first permit, £116 for the second one and a whopping £280 per year for the third permit... on top of which there's a £27 admin fee for a fresh permit.  Croydon Borough link.
But fear not - exemptions are available.  For council bosses and their families, permits can be free of charge - fellow blogger link.
Now, as for the rest of you...  You gotta pay for the luxurient lifestyles of the council fatcats so get back to fucking work - or else.

First Named Hack to Expose Andy Coulson Found Dead

(Updated Tuesday AM)
Former News of the World Showbiz (ie scribbler of utter drivel) reporter Sean Hoare – the first named journalist to allege Andy Coulson knew of phone hacking – has been found dead.
Coulson 'actively encouraged me to do it (hack phones)' said Hoare in an interview, claiming that hacking was 'endemic'.
The whole world is watching
The death is not being treated as suspicious by police.  I'll state that one again - the death of the man who lit the match (so far claiming the scalps of two top cops, Wade/Brooks, the newspaper itself) is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious by the... er... police.
Sean Hoare told the New York Times that the practice was far more extensive than the paper acknowledged when police first investigated hacking claims.
Nothing to see here, folks.  Move along... Follow the nice Mainstream Media gentleman to your seat in front of the idiot box... Get back to your X-Factor and soap shows and other shit, move along... there's a feature on Jordan/Katie Price tonight.  C'mon, get moving folks.  Lot's of pro sports, Cheryl Cole, Peter Andre... keep it moving folks, step away from the reality scene... nothing to read into anything here, folks...
Christine Bleakely's just bought a new handbag, people - go see; go see Christine's new pink handbag on Sky you fucking bozo schmucks... keep it moving at the back there... go get your dose of brain-rot and right-wing propaganda...

How On Earth Is She Clinging On?

As Met officers current and former squirm under Keith Vaz's scrutiny at Westminster's Home Affairs Select Comittee, we wave goodbye to a 'newspaper' synonymous with sleezy malpractice.
Paediatricians and anyone making a PDF-file can now sigh a breath of relief as the red-top slides along the gutter and into history, (to be replaced, one would assume by the same team on the Sunday Sun.  Thanks, Rupert.  Thanks a lot).
Yet we don't say goodbye to the woman at the helm of the News of the World at the time of the dirtiest digging, who is now chief executive of News International.
News International, Wapping
Rebekah Brooks, nee Wade, has the public support of billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who when asked what his priorities were a few days ago, nodded to Brooks.
  'This one,' he replied.
  Daily Mail link.
How on Earth could she receive so much support despite being publicly villified, for amongst other things, allowing material from hacked mobile phone conversations, most disturbingly those of murdered girls, to be turned into sensationalist ogling?
Mainstream media seem to be coming to the conclusion that her role is to act as firebreak, insulating Murdoch's son James from the heat - a possibility.  Or maybe, seeing as her modus operandi is to dig dirt on people and then use this 'bucket of shit' for her own ends, perhaps she's had her dirty raincoats watching the Murdoch family itself.
(An Ausralian politician received a call from a Murdoch hack, who asked, 'What'll it be?  A headline a day or a bucket of shit a day?' - John Pilger link.
An unusual insurance policy to the rest of us, but we're talking about the gutter press here, an inverted world where only the lowest, most cynical abusers of others get to the top - Conflict Media: link
Murdoch's insidious links into the social fabric are many.  He is ranked by Forbes as the 13th most powerful person in the world (2010).  From dumbed-down newspaper articles in the building site canteen designed to focus attention away from workers concerns and onto David Beckham's latest metro-man idiocy, to the self-censorship of journalists and editors who fall into line - or else they're down the road - to the 'Directors of Communications' and such like that he has smoothly clamped onto the shoulders of party leaders.

We watched as Blair, the Orwellian-titled 'Middle East Peace Envoy', broke into his busy campaign schedule to suck up to Murdoch at his exclusive Hayman Island resort off the coast of Australia in 1995 - link.  He addressed the annual News Corp conference.
Bill Hicks had a term for people like Murdoch and George Carlin put it down as neatly as I've ever heard... link
David Cameron had News of the World (Murdoch) former editor Andy Coulson at his shoulder as Director of Communications.  Realising Coulson's toxicity, Cameron's replaced him for Craig Oliver.  He spent two years in the late Nineties at Sky's (Murdoch's) Five News.  Oliver's wife, TV broadcast journalist Joanna Gosling, is a former Sky (Murdoch) presenter - link.
Ed Miliband has Tom Baldwin - a Times (Murdoch) senior journalist.  It was Baldwin, friend of Alistair Campbell, who named Dr David Kelly as whistleblower.  (Covered more fully in Conflict Resource Wars - link.)
Politicians, journalists, cops... all seem to be coming a cropper.  Now for the words a real politician once said.  Indeed, a proper, RESPECTED journalist.  One at the sharp end, and for whom grubbing about on mobile phones would have been unthinkable.
'Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.'
  Winston Churchill, speech 1942.
Twitter, Facebook, blogs and internet, mobile phones with video capacity, Google and Ian Tomlinson... the tide is turning, and the connected generation are everywhere.  In the kettles where the kids get their heads smashed by fired-up uniformed thugs who have volunteered for riot cop duty, in the MPs expenses office where the off duty Afghanistan vets shake their heads at the claims for moat clearances and chocolate bars, on the frontlines of the Middle East when they return to duty and watch as they get used as a photoshoot backdrop for a priveledged millionaire Prime Minister who has never heard a shot fired in anger... watching and waiting for the grapsers, the thugs, the thieves and the liars to come undone.  Light shall shine into the darkest corners, and we shall be watching as the train crash that was the media, government, education and economic systems comes to a shattering stop.
  It's called waking up.
Here's to a long, hot summer.

Just Do It Premier

Just Do It - a tale of modern day outlaws, a film documentary featuring many comrades from the activist community, has held it's premiere in London.
Director Emily James addresses the premier audience
Guardian link.  It tells the story of a variety of activists, including Meltdown co-founder Marina Pepper, as they fight against the system in actions ranging from Copenhagen, Vestas, G-20 and Ratcliffe Power Station.
Director Emily James told the Guardian:  'I could see that a much more important film could be made by capturing the events before and after the actions, letting the audience get to know the people who were willing to risk their liberties, and even their lives, to protest. I believed in what they were doing and wanted to help get their message out.'
Indeed it does, and serves as a useful template for activists new to the fight, explaining basic tactics and methods such as D-locks, lock-on tubes, mission planning, police response and more.
I found it useful as a detailed explanation of my motives to my non-activist partner who really enjoyed herself and, I hope, has taken a further step towards the fight-back.

Advertisers Give News of the World Cold Shoulder

News of the World is now a target for activism as it is revealed they hacked into the voicemail of murdered 13-year-old Millie Dowler.
Taking time to drag themselves away from covering boring celebs Jordan and Cheryl, ghoulish 'reporters', then deleted some messages in the six months it took until her body was found so that they could record frantic family messages.  This in turn raised false hopes that Millie was still alive - Dow Jones link.  The family's lawyer described the act as 'heinous and despicable'.
Other reprehensible acts include hacking into the families of the 7/7 bombing and Ian Huntley's Soham child sex killings.
Red top drivel
In response to this lowest form of reporting, activists have started tweeting the names of the paper's advertisers, some of whom have cancelled advertising with Britain's filthiest red-top rag.
Companies who have pulled the plug include Ford Motor Company, Lloyds banking, Coca-Cola, Bodyshop, Virgin Holidays, Co-op.
Considering their position are Orange, Cadburys, Dixons, T-Mobile, Vauxhall, Vodaphone, Procter and Gamble, Sainsburys, First Choice, mortgage-lender Halifax and energy provider Npower, and others are coming under strong pressure from activists using Twitter - link.
Here's some of the businesses that are still working with this filthy gang as of 5 July, 2011 (as and when they change position I'll update accordingly.  Tweeters and bloggers, be aware things are devloping fast)...
Gigsandtours, Boots, Morrisons, WH Smith, Weightwatchers, Carpet Right, EasyJet, Butlins, Renault UK, Firstchoiceuk, Brand Alley UK, Comet, Tesco, Xtra-Vision, Bulmers Cider.

  Current editor: Colin Myler.

Editor at the time: Rebekah Brooks (nee Wade), now chief executive of News International and personal friend of David Cameron.
'It’s wrong for newspapers to breach people’s privacy with no justification.  That is why Andy Coulson resigned as Editor of the News of the World 2½ years ago.  Of course I knew about that resignation before offering him the job. But I believe in giving people a second chance,' standing shoulder to shoulder with shit: David Cameron's former director of communications Andy Coulson, who stepped into Wade's shoes a year later.  He was sacked by Cameron over phone-tapping, leading one to surmise that Wade was up to her neck in it.

Traitors to the last...

Train maker Bombardier, which recently missed out on the £1.4bn Thameslink contract to German group Siemens, plans to cut more than 1,400 jobs at its Derby plant - link.
The news is the latest in a long line of back-stabbing by the industrialists, bankers and politicians who have done so much harm to our country and fellow citizens.
Last scraps of an ironworks, Derbyshire's Stanton
A few miles east, in Stanton-by-Dale, there was an ironworks  It used to pump out pipes and manhole street ironware such as manhole covers; you'll see the name Stanton on a large portion of the inspection chambers you step over.  In the Second World War it played a part in bringing down Hitler, making bombs.
Gone.  And with it, hundreds of livelihoods.
Mining industry - gone.  In the same neck if the woods is DH Lawrence's Eastwood in Nottinghamshire, nick-named 'BrownTown' by the locals.  Brown being a street term for heroin; a dispossessed red-brick waste, marking time.
The list is long - and insane (if we can step for a moment outside the box marked 'capitalism').
North Sea oil and gas - sold off to the highest bidder rather than rationed out for future generations to utilise.
Renewable energy -  the country's wind turbine blade manufacturer closed its (only) Isle of Wight operation.  If ever there was an industry that deserved input... instead the banks get propped up.  Is it by chance that both Cameron and Clegg's fathers are bankers?
Where the steel men now live: Sheffield's Park Hill
  Steel industry - gone.
Shipping - gone.   Despite 95% of our trade carried by sea - government's own report - link.
  Textile, manufacturing... in short: industry.
And in it's place a service economy dependent on the whims of chance.  Banking, insurance, call centres.  In other words, people sat on their arses shuffling paper.
The one thing we do manufacture, and manufacture it well, is nothing to be proud of.  Arms.  Which right now are cutting swathes through the protestors in the Middle East.

If you are in any doubt that the government - any British government - has the interests of the people at heart, then you are very mistaken.  Instead, to my eyes... they are traitors.

World News - Strauss Kahn Steps On Goldfinger's Toes

French IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn have said that he could make a political comeback in France now he has been freed from house arrest in the US- BBC link.  The comments follow relevations that the testimony of the hotel maid he was alleged to have attempted to rape appears to be flawed.   From the BBC -
'The maid claims that Mr Strauss-Kahn chased her down a hallway in his expensive hotel suite in the Sofitel hotel before sexually assaulting her.
However, unnamed law enforcement officials have now told US media the accuser has repeatedly lied since the alleged attack.
The officials believe the woman also lied on her application for asylum, particularly over an allegation that she had been raped while at home in Guinea. They also suspect she has links to drugs dealers and money-laundering.'
Nice girl.  So nice that someone gave this cleaner $100,000 over the past two years and AP reports  - Guardian link.
So it could well be that the whole story is a put-up job... but from which direction?  If he's standing for the French Presidency against the insidious Sarkozy, then that's one possibility.  But Strauss-Kahn has stepped on even bigger toes than some French domestic opposition in the not-so-distant past.  Strauss-Kahn had the temerity to discover that 'all of the gold held in the United States Bullion Depository located at Fort Knox was ‘missing and/or unaccounted’ for': European Union Times - link.  The Russian Federal Security Service, the FSB, were directed to compile a report for Prime Minister Putin examining the matter, revealing the former IMF chief's discovery.   His friend, top Egyptian banker Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar, was similarly charged with a sex crime on another New York hotel maid.  Omar was described in the FSB report as a 74-year-old devout Muslim and dedicated family man.
And the mainstream media?  Cheryl Cole is back with Ashley and she wants kids - Daily Mirror shite - link.
